Where are the tablets for graphic designers?

Tablet pcTablets are some amazing little devices. They run extremely fast for their size and bring the huge world of the cloud into the pockets of everyone from students to businessmen. The big question is where in this fast moving tablet market are the devices for designers? Where are the powerful long lasting tablets that can hold their own against a laptop? It is not an often asked question but maybe it should be asked.

Take Apple for example they have powerful graphics processors and an amazing sense for design but the Ipad and even Ipad 2 lack in the ability to us them for daily design work. I admit that this is not what they are meant for but with the huge amount of Apple users being designers they (if not already) should be thinking about this.

Personally I am not particular to any type of operating system as long as it has the strength to power the Adobe suite and my music (which is essential). This then leads to PC’s and if they have enough gall to stomach a power hungry processor and the memory to use the Adobe CS5 suite.

Asus Eee Slate

Well in searching one will find a match few and far between. The closest I found was the Asus Eee Slate which though low on the battery life (3 hours) packs enough punch with an Intel i5 processor to make the cut. The main trouble with the eeslate is its price tag $998.00 + tax which is for some not that bad. Though I am looking for a little more in the battery life department for it to dig into my pockets that deep.

Other tablets and slate that run windows are on their way to the market, yet it seems it will take a few more years to reach the sweet spot on cost, battery life, and processing speed.

The reason for Google +1

google +1

In the world of social media every day a new MySpace crashes and burns as a facebook analog gains more ground. Though it seems the majority of social networks are aimed at getting into your pocket book, Google +1 is seemingly different.

The premise of Google +1 is adding the simplicity of just saying you enjoy a website or post with the power of Google’s search engine. These two seemingly dissimilar actions one a person the other a robot could change the way we use social media.

Though it is just the beginning it seems Google has finally solved it social media conundrum for the moment. I think it will be awhile before we all +1 on a daily basis like our twitter accounts but hey for a billion dollar company it’s a start.

The Delmar Loop

It’s a hallmark. It’s one of the 10 best streets in America! It’s The Delmar Loop.

This month marks the last day in which I was maintenance the Delmar loops website, @ Visittheloop.com. The time there was very nice and offered a glimpse into the little known workings of businesses in one of Saint Louis’ premier hangout spots.

Though I have finished helping them out I re-designing and organizing their site to a satisfactory point I then handed off the torch to their web department. I see them having to beef up the social media aspect for a more comprehensive experience but with a site that garners more than 400+ visitors a day without any additional PR I think they will succeed. Once again check them out weekly and sign-up for their newsletter, which has special tips for the Loops upcoming entertainment.
